Marilyn and I were delighted to talk to you yesterday, Mel.

It looks like Pro Chrysler is having a major facelift...tougher working conditions for now; however, in 9-12 months it should be just a memory.

Many thanks for the accessory web site. When I am ready to buy the sideboards, I will take a detailed look and then give you a call for pricing...this will be probably next Spring since we will return to FL at the end of October.

IMPORTANT: Please pass the following feedback on to service (in for oil change and complimentary car wash, latter because when our car was delivered to us in Castle Rock, road conditions were bad). The gentleman (2nd desk from door?) who took care of us was very courteous and attentive.

Further, the individual or crew that washed the car deserve very high praise!! Frankly, I was expecting no more than a quick "once over". Instead, it looked like it was being readied for a national filming campaign. The tires have a gorgeous sheen and the body has been cleaned to perfection...it just sparkles...even better than we first saw it on the lot when brand new in early October/2009. Please, please, pass this along. These conscientious people who work so hard to get it done right deserve recognition and thanks.

Average Pump Price $2.77

"Pump prices will average $2.77 per gallon nationwide over the second half of 2010, up just one cent per gallon from the average for the first half of the year," the Department of Energy's short-term forecast said.

Glad to hear prices are going to remain the same over the next couple of months... however, $2.77 per gallon seems pretty high to me.

Here are a few gas saving tips to keep a few pennies in your pocket and not in the pump:

Keep your car properly tuned to improve gas mileage by an average of 4 percent.
Keep tires properly inflated and improve gas mileage by 3 percent.
Replace dirty or clogged air filters on older vehicles to improve gas mileage by as much as 14 percent.
Replace dirty spark plugs, which can reduce mileage by two miles per gallon.
Change oil regularly and gain another mile per gallon.

Driving behavior also impacts fuel efficiency. Here are a few gas-saving driving tips:

Observe the speed limit. Gas mileage decreases rapidly above 60 mph.
Avoid excessive idling. Idling gets zero miles per gallon. Warming up the vehicle for one or two minutes is sufficient.
Avoid quick starts and stops. Aggressive driving can lower gas mileage by 33 percent on the highway and 5 percent in the city.
Consolidate trips. Several short trips taken from a cold start can use twice as much gas as one longer multi-purpose trip.
Don’t haul unneeded items in the trunk. An extra 100 pounds in the trunk reduces fuel economy by 1 to 2 percent.

Service Drive is Under the White Tent.

Dropping your car off for service is a little different experience these days. You will enter the lot from the west entrance and will proceed forward under the white tent. Park your car and go inside the trailer. There you will meet your service adviser. He or she will check you and your vehicle in for your scheduled service. Once you are checked in, you are welcome to wait in the customer lounge located in the main building. Enter from the west side of the building, walk through the sales showroom and follow the signs to the cashier. We also have a shuttle service that will take you to your home or office. The construction is changing the way we look, but not changing the way we do business! We are fully operational... just excuse the dust! The service department is fully functional as well; with all the service bays available. To access the sales and service departments, enter using the west entrance (which is the first drive way you will come to when traveling east on 104th). Once you have pulled on to the lot, proceed forward for service or turn right to park for sales.

Batteries, Tires and Cooling Systems Take a Beating in the Heat

Summer's heat can be tough on cars! It can destroy batteries and stress the cooling system and tires. As a precaution, these vehicle components should be checked periodically during summer to help avoid breakdowns and car problems, according to the Car Care Council.

Excessive heat and overcharging shorten the life of a battery. Heat causes battery fluid to evaporate, which then damages the internal structure of the battery. A malfunctioning component in the charging system, usually the voltage regulator, allows too high a charging rate, which will eventually destroy a battery.

To get the most life out of a battery, the council recommends having the electrical system checked to make sure it is charging at the correct rate. If your car’s battery is the type that needs to be topped off, check it often, especially in hot weather and add distilled water if necessary. Keep the top of the battery clean. Dirt can become a conductor, which drains battery power. If corrosion accumulates on battery terminals, it becomes an insulator and inhibits the current flow.

The cooling system also works harder during hot temperatures to prevent overheating of the engine. To keep the cooling system working effectively, the coolant and distilled water mixture for a vehicle’s radiator should be 50:50. As a reminder, never open a hot radiator cap when checking the coolant level in the reservoir.

As a rule of thumb, the coolant should be changed annually on most vehicles. This will keep the cooling system fresh and clean inside, which helps prevent corrosion and assures that the coolant has the proper boiling point and protection. A pressure test, thermostat test, a cooling fan test and a visual inspection for leaks and corrosion should also be done annually. Hoses and drive belts should be checked for cracks, bulges or frayed edges.

The radiator should be kept clean by periodically using a garden hose and a soft brush to carefully remove bugs, dirt and debris.

Tires also need special care in warmer weather as high temperatures put added stress on them. To maximize tire life and safety, check the tire condition and inflation pressure monthly, and have the tires rotated every 6,000 miles. Summer heat will cause the pressure within a tire to rise, therefore, it’s important to check the pressure when tires are cold. The owner’s manual includes the recommended air pressure for your vehicle’s tires.
